by | Jul 1, 2025 | About Alphasauna, Sauna Category

If you want to maintain a long-term good sauna experience, you can’t do without every meticulous cleaning and maintenance behind the scenes. Many people mistakenly think that they can sit back and relax after the sauna is installed. However, ignoring daily maintenance will not only reduce comfort, but also shorten the service life of the sauna, and even cause thorny problems such as mold and corrosion.
If you want the sauna to always be clean, odor-free, mold-free and damage-free, you must start with daily cleaning and detail processing. This article will systematically answer you: How to keep the indoor sauna dry and clean? How should the outdoor sauna deal with the test of wind and rain? Mastering a set of simple and practical daily maintenance methods can keep your sauna fresh and new, which is both safe and worry-free.

Daily Sauna Maintenance of Indoor Room

Although indoor saunas are protected from the wind and sun outside, like other household appliances, they will inevitably accumulate dust after being used for a certain period of time, causing the outer surface of the sauna to become dirty. At the same time, the surrounding environment of the sauna needs to be ventilated. If cleaning and ventilation after use are neglected, it will not only affect the user experience, but may also cause wood mold, equipment aging, and even produce odor. The following are the core maintenance points that should be paid special attention to when using indoor saunas in daily life:

Indoor Electric Heater Sauna Room Daily Cleaning and Sauna Maintenance

Power off and Cooling

After use, first turn off the power of the electric heater in the sauna room and wait for the heater to cool down naturally. During this period, do not clean immediately to avoid burns or damage to cleaning tools caused by high temperature. During the waiting process, the space can be ventilated.

Open Doors and Windows for Ventilation

Humidity control is an extremely critical part of the daily maintenance of indoor sauna rooms. Long-term exposure to a humid, stuffy and poorly ventilated environment will not only cause wood to mold, swell and deform, but also easily produce odors and breed bacteria. After using the sauna room, the door should be opened immediately for ventilation for at least 30 minutes to exhaust the residual steam and heat, so that the moisture dissipates naturally, and remove the residual odor and water vapor. If the external humidity is high, a dehumidifier or desiccant can be used to assist in dehumidification.

Wipe the Wooden Surface

Use a soft dry towel to wipe the wall, seat, backrest and floor, focusing on removing sweat stains. Avoid using cleaning fluids containing bleach or strong alkaline to prevent damage to the wood. If used frequently, it is recommended to use a special wood maintenance oil to gently wipe the wood surface once a week to prevent cracking and mold.

Check and Clean the Floor and Drain Holes

Check whether there is water accumulation or debris blocking the drain holes. Use a dry cloth to absorb water to remove foreign objects such as hair and sawdust from the drain holes. If there is dust, hair or other debris on the floor, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any loose particles. Even if you don’t see any dust, you should vacuum it every few weeks to remove any debris that may remain. Keeping it clean and tidy can improve your sauna experience.

Clean the Dust on the Outer Surface of the Sauna Room

Even if it is installed in an indoor environment, the wood surface of the sauna room will still accumulate dust due to dust in the air, especially the joints of the wall panels are more likely to harbor dirt. It is recommended to dry clean once every week, using a soft dry cloth to gently wipe the wood surface along the wood grain, which can effectively remove floating dust without damaging the surface wood wax oil.
If there is a lot of dust, you can first sweep it lightly with a soft brush and then wipe it. For minor local stains, you can use a small amount of neutral wood cleaner diluted with warm water and then rub it. Remember not to use a wet cloth or strong chemical cleaners to avoid causing the wood to absorb water and swell and be damaged. Regular cleaning of the exterior surface not only maintains the overall beauty, but also helps to delay the aging of the wood and the surface cracking.

Cleaning Sauna Accessories

  • Sauna bucket: Empty the water in the barrel after use to prevent long-term water accumulation from causing wood mold and bacteria.
  • Sauna towel: Towels and bathrobes are often damp due to sweat, so special attention should be paid to the frequency of washing and care. Wash them immediately after each use, wash them with warm water and neutral laundry detergent, and dry them in the sun or use a dryer after washing to keep them dry.
  • Sauna hat: Rinse with clean water after use, keep the hat shape when drying to avoid deformation, and avoid exposure to the sun.
  • Thermohygrometer: Wipe dust with a dry cloth regularly to avoid water ingress
  • Aromatherapy bowl or fragrance bottle: Wash and keep dry after use to avoid residual essential oil affecting the next use.

Cleaning Sauna Electric Heater

Wipe the outer shell of the furnace to remove dust and water stains. Avoid using alcohol or corrosive detergents to prevent damage to the metal surface. Next, carefully remove the sauna stone and use a dry brush to clean the aromatherapy residue, scale and dust on the surface. It is strictly forbidden to rinse the sauna stone with water to prevent it from bursting after absorbing water.
After cleaning the sauna stones, you can reposition them to ensure that they are heated evenly and ventilated. After daily use, you only need to wipe the surface and perform a deep clean once a month. The frequency of use of sauna stones is to replace them every 6 to 12 months.

Indoor Infrared Sauna Room Daily Cleaning and Sauna Maintenance

Infrared saunas have many similarities with traditional electric stove saunas in terms of cleaning methods. For example: wipe sweat stains in time after use, keep ventilation and dry, clean wooden surfaces and glass doors regularly, and avoid using alcohol or corrosive detergents. However, there are also significant differences between the two. Infrared saunas use infrared panels for heating, which do not produce steam or moisture, so there is no need to deal with sauna stones, water stains or drainage systems, nor is there a need to regularly check the furnace cavity and electric heating components. Its cleaning focus is more on sweat-proof and dust-proof air environment.
The infrared heating panel of the infrared sauna should be gently wiped with a dry soft cloth regularly to remove dust from the surface. Do not spray water or use a wet cloth to avoid damage. In general, the cleaning of infrared saunas is easier than that of electric stoves and wood stoves.

Daily Sauna Maintenance of Outdoor Saunas

Outdoor saunas are exposed to the outdoor environment for a long time, facing natural factors such as sun, rain, and humidity changes, and the erosion of wood is far greater than that of indoor equipment. If daily maintenance is neglected, it will not only cause the wood to age, mildew or crack, but may also shorten its overall service life and increase maintenance costs. Therefore, daily maintenance of outdoor saunas is particularly important.

Daily Cleaning and Sauna Maintenance of Outdoor Wood Stove Sauna Room

The internal cleaning methods of outdoor wood stove sauna room and indoor electric stove sauna room are basically the same, especially when dealing with wooden contact surfaces such as stools, floors, and backrests. Compared with the electric stoves used in indoor sauna rooms, outdoor sauna rooms generally use traditional wood stoves. The daily cleaning and maintenance of outdoor sauna rooms focus on:

External Cleaning and Protection of Sauna Room

Use a soft brush to gently wipe the dust and stains on the wall, then rinse with clean water, and wipe dry with a clean rag or let it dry naturally. After cleaning, you can apply a proper amount of wood wax oil to enhance the protective effect. It is not recommended to use hard tools such as wire brushes to avoid scratching the wood surface. It is recommended to clean once a quarter. In dusty or rainy seasons, the cleaning frequency can be appropriately increased according to actual conditions.

Cleaning and maintenance of curved asphalt shingle roof

Use a soft broom or a long-handled brush to gently sweep the fallen leaves, branches and dust on the roof; if algae or moss is found, spray the roof special cleaner, wait for 5 to 10 minutes, and then gently brush it off; do not use a high-pressure water gun to directly wash the roof tiles to avoid destroying the asphalt particle structure and causing the waterproof layer to fail.

Daily Maintenance of Insect Prevention in Outdoor Sauna Room

Check the wood regularly and pay attention to whether there are insect holes or powdery sawdust. Once found, it should be handled in time. Use insect-proof wood oil containing natural insect repellent ingredients to brush to prevent insect pests. At the same time, avoid water accumulation and humidity in the environment around the sauna room to reduce the breeding of mosquitoes and termites. In addition, install dust nets on the roof and vents to effectively prevent dust, leaves and insects from entering the room.
