Ice Bath & Sauna Combination Delivers Hot and Cold Wellness

More and more people enjoy the refreshing sensation of alternating between hot and cold. After a sauna experience, quickly entering a cold plunge tub and instantly switching from high temperatures to icy cold water creates a refreshing feeling that only those who have experienced it can truly understand.
To achieve effective hot and cold therapy, besides choosing the right equipment, we also need to consider the room structure, material selection, detailed design, and outdoor suitability and durability. Next, let’s take a look at Alphasauna’s latest ice bath sauna combination and see how it balances experience and practicality, enhancing each hot and cold session.
Ice Bath Sauna Combination Structure Design
As shown in the picture, this ice bath sauna combination connects the ice bath area with the sauna area, yet they are independent of each other, allowing for a seamless and smoother experience.
Ice Bath Area
The ice bath area is situated on the left side of the room, with overall dimensions of 2000 mm wide x 2400 mm deep x 2100 mm high. It houses an integrated cold plunge tub, combining the tub and refrigeration unit in a clean and efficient layout with minimal footprint. The tub also features wheels for easy movement, fully meeting various usage needs.
A row of benches is set up next to the cold plunge tub, which can be used as a preparation and recovery area before and after an ice bath. It is also a convenient space for resting, lying down to relax, or placing personal items. It is practical and comfortable.
Two sensor lights are installed on the top to fully cover the lighting needs of the ice bath area. While providing ample light, the space also automatically goes into sleep mode when no one is using it, saving resources.
Sauna Area
The sauna area is located on the right side of the combined room, with overall dimensions of 1500mm wide x 2400mm deep x 2100mm high.
Upon entering the sauna room, you’ll be greeted by a double-layer bench structure. Compared to ordinary single-layer seats, this design easily accommodates multiple users simultaneously, offering flexible seating options such as sitting, leaning back, or even reclining. Different tiers of seats provide different levels of heat sensation. Users can choose between the upper and lower tiers based on their heat tolerance, with the upper tier providing a more pronounced heat effect.
The seats are equipped with comfortable backrests, and RGB color ambient light strips are installed above the backrests and below the seats, which can be freely changed to different colors to create an immersive lighting atmosphere for the sauna experience.
A space has been reserved in front of the seats for a stove frame to be installed, which will heat the sauna area to the ideal temperature quickly via electric heating.
Material Selection
When designing this ice bath sauna combination room, we not only focused on the structural layout but also gave careful consideration to the materials used. From the cold plunge tub that can withstand the requirements of cold water and constant temperature, to the efficient and reliable electric sauna stove, and even the selection of wood for the entire room, the materials we chose were closely linked to actual needs.
Cold Plunge Tub and Refrigeration Unit
Cold Plunge Tub: Our 1-2 person full-body cold plunge tub features a stainless steel interior that is corrosion-resistant, has excellent thermal conductivity, and quickly cools the water. It’s also very easy to clean. The tub is equipped with an inlet and outlet, and includes an LED light to enhance the ambiance of your cold bath experience.
Refrigeration Unit: To ensure the cold plunge tub maintains a stable temperature within the ideal range, we’ve equipped it with a high-efficiency chiller that rapidly cools the water and sustains a low-temperature environment. This chiller features an intelligent temperature control system and an LCD touchscreen, supporting precise adjustment and timed start/stop functions, balancing energy efficiency with a superior user experience.
Electric Sauna Stove
This cylindrical sauna stove features a metal mesh cover and a high-efficiency heating element design, which can quickly and evenly heat the sauna room. It also increases indoor humidity and temperature by splashing water onto the hot sauna stones.
Plywood Structure and Rusty Cedar
Plywood Structure:Unlike solid wood panel structures, plywood consists of approximately 5–8mm thick solid wood planks and plywood, with insulation filling the gaps, and is fitted with a wooden frame to form a composite wall. This structure ensures basic insulation while significantly reducing overall weight, making the entire structure lighter and easier to transport and install.
Rusty Cedar:For the solid wood materials, rusty cedar is selected. Its distinctive feature is the naturally formed knots and grain, giving it a unique character. Compared to ordinary hemlock or pine, rusty cedar has a more textured appearance, adding depth and design to the entire ice bath sauna suite. Besides its aesthetic appeal, rusty cedar is also particularly suitable for outdoor use. The wood contains natural oils, making it highly resistant to decay and less prone to warping or cracking.
To enhance its durability for outdoor use, Alphasauna also applies a uniform coat of wood wax oil to the exterior wood surfaces. Applying wood wax oil makes the wood surface feel smoother and the grain clearer, while also reducing aging and fading caused by rain, UV exposure, and thus making the entire ice bath sauna combination structure more durable for outdoor use.
Of course, we also offer a variety of different structural and wood options for customers to choose from.If you need to place it outdoors for long-term use, we recommend using the solid wood structure. Solid wood walls are not only more robust and have better insulation properties, but they also remain stable and less prone to warping under long-term temperature fluctuations and high humidity conditions.
In addition to rusty cedar, we also have a variety of other high-qualitywoods to choose from, such as hemlock, pine, and red cedar. You can choose according to your budget, preferences, and usage environment, and we will tailor a unique solution for you based on your selection.
Detailed Design
The good experience often lies in the detailed design of the ice bath sauna combination room.
Ventilation Design
Large Heat Dissipation Vents in the Ice Bath Area:On the left wall of the ice bath area, a circular vent with a diameter of 50cm has been created. This design is to accommodate the significant heat dissipation required by the integrated cold plunge tub’s cooling system during operation. This open vent ensures stable operation of the cooling system and keeps the cold water in the tub at a lower temperature for a longer period.
Sauna Ventilation Vents:Upon entering the sauna, you’ll see an adjustable air vent above the seats and a bottom air inlet near the panoramic glass, creating a natural convection air circulation system. This ensures comfortable breathing and smooth ventilation throughout the sauna, while also guaranteeing efficient heating and humidity control for a superior overall experience.
Sloping Roof Design
Notably, this ice bath sauna combination room features a sloping roof design with a height difference of approximately 3cm. The sloping roof allows rainwater and snowmelt to flow smoothly down the roof, preventing water accumulation and reducing the risk of long-term moisture damage and rot in the wood, effectively extending the lifespan of the ice bath sauna combination room.
This type of roof structure is ideal for cold, damp climates with frequent rain and snow. It can be placed in yards, terraces, or open outdoor areas without worrying about deformation, leaks, or frequent maintenance.
Panoramic Glass Design
From the front of the sauna, you can see that the entire wall is made of panoramic glass. The transparent glass makes the interior space completely open, which not only makes it appear more spacious and transparent, but also allows users to enjoy the heat therapy while enjoying the outdoor scenery and adding external light. The overall space design is not oppressive.
Why Is the Ice Bath Sauna Combination Considered the Future Trend?

By installing the ice bath sauna combination at home, you can eliminate the need to queue at gyms or spas and enjoy the convenience of switching between hot and cold therapy anytime.

FAQS
Question1:What Is the Range of Water Temperature Control for an Ice Bath? Are There Any Restrictions on Ozone Disinfection and Its Usage Time?
Answer:The chiller’s temperature control range is 3 to 40 degrees Celsius, capable of lowering the water temperature to a low-temperature chilled state of 3 degrees Celsius or raising it to a constant temperature of approximately 40 degrees Celsius, meeting the needs of both cryotherapy and warm bath modes.
The chiller system supports continuous operation, ensuring stable water temperature within the set range. Meanwhile, the system’s ozone disinfection function typically stops operating after half an hour. To continue water disinfection, simply press the restart button.
Question2:Do the Refrigeration Unit and Electric Sauna Stove Need to Be Connected to a Dedicated Power Supply?
Answer:Yes. It typically requires 220V or the local voltage, and a stable power line must be provided. We will confirm the power environment with the customer before placing an order to avoid situations where it cannot be used after installation.
Question3:Does the Installation Require Professional Personnel?
Answer:Installation is recommended to be performed by professionals. Especially the electrical connections between the electric sauna stove and the refrigeration unit, and adding refrigerant to the refrigeration system after installation—these steps involve electrical safety and refrigeration system commissioning, and professionals can perform these operations more accurately and safely. Of course, Alphasauna will also provide installation instructions and videos to assist with the installation process.
